The Art of Escaping into a Good Book | McKenzie Richardson

It had taken the entirety of her adult life, but as Cassandra settled the last book into place, she knew her efforts had not been in vain.

Before her eyes, she watched her childhood dream become fully actualized.

In front of her rose a house of books. No, not just a house; a castle, a fortress, a sanctuary.

A gasp of awe escaped her lips before they twitched into a contented smile. Then she straightened her aching back, held her head up high, and entered her new home, closing the door against the drudgery of the outside world.

McKenzie Richardson lives in Milwaukee, WI. Her work has been featured in various anthologies such as Mutate, Electromagnetism, and Doomsday, as well as online publications. Her first novel, Heartstrings, was published in 2018. McKenzie also runs a crafting blog: For more updates on her writing, you can follow her on Facebook: | Wattpad
